Bloodborne Pathogens
This course will be beneficial to emergency responders such as doctors, nurses, paramedics, fire fighters, and police. The role of the emergency responder has taken on a new dimension of danger in recent years with the increase in the number of Bloodborne viruses. As many as millions people in North America have tested positive for AIDS and other infectious, bodily fluid transmitted diseases such as Hepatitis. This course can help the emergency responder learn to guard against occupational exposure to HIV and HBV and to serve as a line of defence against the further spread of these dangerous diseases. Topics covered in this course will include Use of protective clothing and equipment, Avoiding needle stick injuries, Decontamination procedures, Proper waste disposal, Procedure if exposed to blood and body fluids, and Hand washing techniques.
