Meeting METI’s Class 1 Driver – Tractor Trailer Program Prerequisites is quick and easy. We guide you during our easy to follow, two-step process.

Step 1

Applicants will be required to provide the following documentation prior to acceptance into the program:

• Completed Application form
• Valid Class 5 license level with “N” removed if on graduated licensing
• Driver’s Abstract
• Nova Scotia Class 1 Driver’s Medical
• Proof of being at least 19 years of age at time of program commencement
Provide an original Certificate of Criminal Record
• Letter of Intent

Application Form

A completed application form which is included in this package must be submitted.

Class 5 Licence

Please bring your licence with you so we can make a copy.

Driver’s Abstract

An abstract is a copy of a person’s driving record. It will show any Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) convictions, accidents, as well as departmental postings and processes. A driver abstract may also be referred to as a client record abstract. An original or certified copy of Driver’s Abstract that is current and includes a 5-year history is required.

To request a driver’s abstract apply in person at Access Nova Scotia.

Payment options at the counter: Cash, debit card, VISA, American Express or MasterCard credit card, or cheque (or money order) made out to the Registry of Motor Vehicles. The fee for an abstract is $18.65.

Medical

An original or certified copy of a Nova Scotia Class 1 Driver’s Medical that is current within 3 months of the program start date. This is obtained from your family doctor. The form is enclosed.

Criminal Record Check

Provide an original or certified copy Certificate of Criminal Record that is dated within thirty days of program start date.
Can be obtained at any:
RCMP Office
Regional Police Department
Corp of Commissionaire’s Office
Fee varies from $35- $55

Letter of Intent

A non-binding Letter of Intent from a potential employer indicating that the employer would consider the applicant for a position upon successful completion. If the applicant has a criminal record, it must be noted in the applicant’s Letter of Intent.

Step 2

METI will work with you to obtain the remaining requirements:
• Successful completion of the Essential Skills testing
• Successful completion of Psycho-physical Testing
• Successful completion of Mechanical Aptitude Testing
• Drug Screening
In addition, students will have to undergo an interview with METI staff with the objective being to assess whether our program is compatible with the students’ background, goals and career aspirations.

Essential Skills Testing

The Essential Skills assessment is scored on a scale of Levels 1 – Level 5, with 5 being the
highest. Each section of the test is marked out of 500 points. Minimum scoring to obtain a successful result is as follows:
Reading (Comprehension) – Level 2; Document Use – Level 1; Numeracy – Level 1 test. METI will arrange for a writing of the ESO Test. METI will make arrangements with the Trucking Human Resource Sector Council for this testing. You will receive an email from them with all the required information

Drug Screening

We will review our Drug Testing Policy with each potential student. The student will be required to sign a copy of the policy to confirm review. Students will be required to pass a drug screening prior to the eleventh week of the program.

Other requirements will be arranged as a team with you and METI.
