Lead Awareness Training delivers instruction in the properties of lead and where it is found, sources of lead exposure, how lead can enter the body, testing methods for the presence of lead and the health effects of lead exposure. Training also teaches you how lead poisoning occurs; when you absorb too much lead by breathing or swallowing a substance with lead in it, such as paint, dust, water, or food. Lead can damage almost every organ system. In children, too much lead in the body can cause lasting problems with growth and development. Exposure to lead can occur by contaminated air, water, dust, food, or consumer products.  Children are at greater risk as they are more likely to put objects in their mouth such as those that contain lead paint and absorb a greater proportion of the lead that they eat.  Exposure at work is also a common cause of lead poisoning in adults with certain occupations at particular risk.  Diagnosis is typically by measurement of the blood lead level.
